Research Areas

  • Learning Science & Cognition

In this lab, we seek to understand how cognitive psychology and neuroscience inform L&D practice at the individual and team levels. Seminal literature in these disciplines inform and guide the team as we outline implications for industry practice.

  • Leader Development

We pursue the reciprocal nature of research and practice by examining the designs that are most effective at improving leader performance, while simultaneously advancing them as best practices.  The key topic we focus on is currently servant leader development.

  • Learning Technology

We explore organizational learning strategy related to the full technology ecosystem as it pertains to learning within the workflow.

Current LS Lab Research Projects

  1. Implications of Cognitive Psychology & Neuroscience: We are compiling a repository of learning principles taken from cognitive psychology, neuroscience, expertise development, and human physiology. We are establishing protocols for practitioners to implement the learning principles in their work.

  2. Workflow Learning & Performance Support: Using a combination of scholarly literature review, industry reports, and interviews with L&D leaders across industries, we are exploring the current and future state of workflow learning and performance support within the learning technology ecosystem, as a result of two years of pandemic.

  3. Servant Leader Development: We are engaged in multiple efforts centered on servant leader (SL) development within organizations. First, we are completing a systematic review of SL literature. Second, we are in the initial stages of developing a model that would assist organizations develop servant leaders within their ranks.

  4. Content Moderation: Our interdisciplinary effort examines the relationship between learning strategy and social media content moderation.
