Dr. Seth Martinez, Lab Director

Dr. Martinez holds a PhD from Indiana University in Instructional Systems. He completed his doctorate in the Spring 2016, and his dissertation focused on servant leader development. Since then, Dr. Martinez has worked at Stanford University, Adobe, and Facebook. In his last industry position, Dr. Martinez set forth the learning strategy for the entire Global Operations organization at Meta (formerly Facebook), focusing on the training and performance improvement of 40,000 content moderators scattered across the globe. In total, he has dedicated over 10 years to professional learning experience design, program management, and strategic direction for a variety of audiences in numerous global settings. In OPWL, Dr. Martinez teaches: Principles of Adult Learning; Learning Experience Design; Interviews and Qualitative Data Analysis; and Foundations of the Workplace Learning Field.

    Gaby Nazario Ramos

    Gaby is a Sr. eLearning Consultant working in the financial services industry. She is an experienced L&D professional, passionate about helping others fulfill their full potential through the development and implementation of engaging learning solutions. In her current role, she works to deliver quality learning experiences through a change leadership perspective.

    Sumaya Ali

    Sumaya is an aspiring instructional designer with experience working as a teacher, writer, and program coordinator. In 2020, she earned her Bachelor’s in Creative Writing and Education from the University of Washington in Seattle. Currently, Sumaya is pursuing her Master’s degree in OPWL at Boise State University and hopes to use the skills she gains in this program to break into the instructional design field.

  • Karyna Mangusheva

    Karyna is currently pursuing her Master’s in OPWL. She earned a BS in Anthropology from the University of Illinois in 2014 and a certificate in Instructional Design & Technology from the University of Maryland in 2021. She has worked as an English as an Other Language teacher for over eight years, traveling extensively and gaining experience working with learners from over 25 different countries. She intends to apply the skills she learns in the program to instructional design.

    Jon Buwalda

    Jonathan is currently working towards his Masters in OPWL at Boise State University. He graduated from Iowa State University in 2022, focusing on cognitive psychology and cultural anthropology. His current professional interests concern the application of situated cognition and apprenticeship principles within a workforce development context.

  • LaKell Archer

    LaKell is currently pursuing the M.S. in OPWL. She earned a B.S. in Dental Hygiene from the University of Wyoming in 2006 and currently manages a rapidly growing dental clinic. Over her 17-year career, she has actively contributed to the growth of two separate dental practices, sparking her interest in change management, expertise/leadership development, and performance improvement. LaKell aims to apply OPWL skills to address individual, leader, and organizational challenges during business development and growth.

  • Brian Simko

    Brian is currently pursuing his Master's degree in OPWL at Boise State University. He has over a decade of experience in the field of Medical Education along with his bachelor's degree in History/Secondary Education. His work at the University of Michigan Medical School ignited a passion for improving the student experience and providing quality service. He looks to utilize his skills gained in the OPWL program to further optimize processes and educational experiences within the medical school and health system.

  • Ben Gibson

    Ben is an adult learning and human performance enthusiast, currently pursuing his master's in the OPWL program. An experienced professional and military veteran, he completed a Master's in Technical Communication from Boise State in 2018 and his Bachelor's of Business Administration from Ashford University in 2014. He hopes to put what he learns in the program to use helping veterans transition from the military back to civilian life.

  • Allyson Briner

    Allyson is an aspiring instructional designer, currently pursuing her masters in the OPWL program. She has been living and teaching abroad for 14 years, first in Thailand and now in Italy. While she has always loved creatively applying the science of learning to course design, through OPWL she has discovered a penchant for performance improvement, and hopes to put her skills to use helping individuals and organizations flourish.

  • Tyler Bangs

    Tyler has worked in Learning and Development for 13 years in a variety of facilitation, instructional design, and leadership roles within the financial services industry. Tyler is pursuing his master's degree in the OPWL program at Boise State University. Tyler currently oversees an L&D team focused on operations and service training for a large insurance company. He hopes to transform the learning experience through a combination of fun, engaging learning activities and support tools to help employees improve their performance.

  • Angie Wolthuis

    Angie is a Learning and Development Manager and a 2014 graduate of Boise State’s Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning program. Finding performance solutions that make a measurable impact in the workplace is what gets her out of bed in the morning (and an alarm). In her free time, she loves mowing the lawn; she can put on her headphones and just ride with no one getting too close.

  • Eunjae Kim

    Eunjae is a Sr. Strategic Program Manager with over 10 years of industry experience working with Meta, Google/YouTube, and other Fortune 500 clients. She nurtures a passion for human-centered experiences focusing on data-driven storytelling, creative performance solutions, and impactful operational strategies. She is an avid follower of design thinking, game theory, gamification, and the AR/VR/MR space.

  • Roshan Bharwaney, Ed.D.

    Roshan is a global operations, talent, and organizational development professional and scholar with over 15 years of experience. He is currently employed at Meta (formerly Facebook), and has deep international experience working in total in approximately 40 countries. With a Doctorate in Adult Learning & Leadership and a Master’s in Organizational Psychology from Columbia University, he leverages scientific research to design, implement, and improve initiatives.
