Research at the Intersection of Learning Science and Organizational Behavior

Dr. Seth Martinez, Lab Director

We help organizations develop better leaders by integrating psychology, neuroscience, and organizational behavior to: (1) advance leadership knowledge through original research, and (2) design learning solutions to strengthen their internal leadership bench. We partner closely with organizations to collect data to develop models of optimal leader development, and then to further apply, test, and refine our models in different contexts.

  • Neuroscience & Cognition

We integrate neuroscience and cognitive psychology to inform the development of expertise .

  • Leader Development

We examine the key developmental experiences and learning designs that most effectively optimize leader development and/or improving leader performance.

The Learning Strategy Lab is located within Boise State University. We research critical learning and performance challenges, and partner with organizations to do so.

The lab is led by Dr. Seth Martinez, Assistant Professor, within the Organizational Performance and Workplace Learning (OPWL) Department. Our goals for research and practice are interdisciplinary, where, at its nexus are our deliverables, influenced by the convergence of several key disciplines — cognitive psychology, organizational behavior, systems thinking, learning experience design, and how each of these domains coalesce with the entire learning technology ecosystem.
